Academics

EL Bethel Christian Academy has an excellent approach to developing a child's academic abilities. The unique set up of our program combines the ABeka curriculum and the A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education) School of Tomorrow curriculum. These programs combine creative integration of values and individualized learning along with innovative classroom instruction. Both curriculums are based on Biblical principles that equip a child to make morally responsible decisions. Our program prepares students to assess priorities, set goals, and assume responsibility for their choices.

Kindergarten - Level 1
This program prepares each student to recognize the name, sound, and picture of short vowels and consonants, as well as the proper formation of both upper- and lower-case letters. Students develop early language and listening skills while exploring topics in health, safety, and simple scientific discoveries. They practice sounding blends, reading one- and two-vowel words, and building sentences and short stories using phonics-based instruction.
Our unique combination of curriculum also introduces letter formation, cursive writing, blends, and early reading through engaging activities in poetry, number recognition, and Bible memory verses. Level 1 students are further enriched through introductory lessons in History, Geography, and Health. In addition, students are introduced to basic sign language to strengthen communication skills and enhance their understanding of inclusivity and expression.

2nd - 5th Level Program
In this program, students build upon their foundational reading and phonics skills to develop strong fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. They refine handwriting and cursive writing, apply grammar and composition skills, and strengthen problem-solving abilities in mathematics. Core subjects include Language Arts, Poetry, Arithmetic, Social Studies, Science, Technology, Art, and daily Bible study. Students are also introduced to basic sign language as part of their communication and enrichment activities. Throughout the program, they are encouraged to think critically, work independently, and apply Christian values across every area of learning.
6th - 8th Middle School Levels
In the middle school levels, students begin to transition from guided learning to greater independence and personal responsibility. The curriculum challenges them to apply foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics to more complex concepts across core subjects—Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Bible.
Students develop critical thinking and organizational skills through projects, research, and presentations that encourage them to explore real-world applications from a biblical perspective. Electives such as Technology, Art, Music, and Physical Education provide opportunities for creativity and personal growth. Character development, leadership, and community service are also emphasized as students prepare for high school success.
9th - 12th High School Levels
The high school program is designed to equip students with the academic knowledge, spiritual foundation, and life skills needed for college, career, and Christian service. Students engage in a comprehensive curriculum that includes core subjects--Bible, English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies—along with enriching electives such as Spanish, Speech, Health, Technology, Art, and Physical Education.
Each student follows one of several academic tracks: General, Vocational, Honors, or College Preparatory, allowing individualized pathways toward graduation. Instruction emphasizes analytical thinking, effective communication, and the integration of Christian values in every area of study. Students are encouraged to pursue excellence in academics, character, and leadership as they prepare to impact the world for Christ.

Setting goals

Picture of Goal Card
Goal Card
  • Help students get prepared for the real world.
  • Teaches the students autonomy.
  • Goal setting is one of the keys to academic and personal achievement.
  • Fact: The amount a student can accomplish in a year is not as important as the amount he can accomplish each day.
  • Tool: Goal Card

Curriculum Comparisons

Conventional Schools

Textbooks - Typically a large book that a teacher goes through teaching the important concept that they need to cover. Teachers do not have enough time or resources to get through the entire textbook in one year, so students may not learn all that they should have.
photo of PACEs
A.C.E.
PACES - A PACE is like a chapter taken out of a textbook and give to the student to master all the concepts within at their own pace. Once concepts in the PACE are mastered as evidenced by the PACE Test they move to the next chapter (PACE).

Tools of measurement

  • Quizzes - Measure knowledge of sections studied throughout textbooks
  • Chapter Test/Exams - Measure knowledge of the materials learned from several sections and concepts in textbook (passing score at least a 66% or a "D").
  • Final Exams - Teachers measurement of knowledge of content taught during the entire year  (passing score at least a 66% or a "D").
  • Checkups - Measurement of learning in a small segment of the PACE.
  • Self Tests - Students evaluation of their understanding of the entire PACE (passing score is 90% or a "A")
  • PACE Test - Supervisor's evaluation of students understanding (passing grade at least 80% or "B").

Things to consider as a parent

  • Self Paced Curriculum - Is your student responsible enough to maintain a level of academic excellence at their own pace without someone standing over their shoulder?
  • Maintaining Academic Excellence - Is your student willing to work hard every day in spite of anything else that may be going on in their life?
  • Home Life - Are you willing to help us in the education of your student by providing a home environment that is stable and conducive to their academic and spiritual success?
